Female-Owned Winnipeg Cremating Service Continues To Grow

WINNIPEG, MB: Alterna Cremation is a female-owned and operated alternative funeral home that is growing and thriving in the traditionally male-dominated funeral services industry.

Ashley Newton, Alterna’s passionate and beloved founder, and a finalist in the WBOM Women Entrepreneur of the Year awards in November 2023, built up the business from scratch after witnessing the heavy burden that more expensive traditional funeral services imposed on many Manitoba families.  She saw a need for simple, transparent cremation services and took it upon herself to create a solution.  Since Alterna’s establishment in 2019, the business has earned a reputation for compassionate service delivered with integrity and professionalism.  In the last year, the team at Alterna took more than 350 families who experienced a death into its care.

Newton is incredibly proud of how her all-female team has once again surpassed its goals and is looking ahead to new horizons.  As a mother, she is all too familiar with the realities of juggling the needs of her growing family, the vision for her expanding business, and the immediate, supportive care for grieving families that is Alterna’s heartbeat.  While it can sometimes feel like there aren’t enough hours in the week, Newton wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Like so many other powerful women, my phenomenal team and I take each day in our stride and are humbled to be able to meet the needs of our community as well as our own families with a combination of sheer determination and love,” she said.

Alterna Cremation offers a direct cremation package that honours your loved one at an affordable price with no hidden fees. Its services include transfer, cremation, and a basic cremation casket for the deceased. There are many reasons why your loved one might have specified direct cremation as their preferred choice. Urns can be provided by the family or purchased through Alterna Cremation.
