Heinz Peters

Obituary of Heinz Peters

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Heinz Peters, father and Opa, at the age of 92 at the Maples Long Term Care Home in Winnipeg.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Rosita (John),their children and grandchildren. Dennis (Christine) and their children-and some family overseas. Heinz’s wife Elli of 68 years predeceased him in 2022.

Heinz was born in East Prussia. Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1951, he received his diploma as a cabinetmaker which he was very proud of. On arriving in Winnipeg he worked various jobs and met Elli and they married in 1954. He finally found his place at Winnipeg Building & Decorating as a project manager where he worked until retirement.

His love of woodworking was apparent in everything he made. Handcrafting their own furniture that decorated every room in the homes he built himself and shared with Elli who kept everything always pristine. He could literally fix anything and was called on by friends and family to help them when problems arose or something needed to be built.

In June 1982, Heinz received his pilots license completing his course through the Winnipeg Flying Club, flying solo and unaided in a Cessna 152 aircraft. From there, his passion grew, and he purchased his own plane with a friend and flew out of St. Andrews airport; logging many hours and going on some great adventures.

Together, Elli and Heinz shared friendships with many. Their home always open for Kaffee und Kuchen, where the coffee was strong and the pastry was in abundance.

Thank you to the staff of Maples Long Term Care for enhancing his quality of life, the last few years. And to everyone in 1 West Wing for their daily care of his needs.

Cremation has taken place, his wishes to hold no funeral. A celebration of life to follow. In lieu of flowers, just tell those who mean the most to you, that you love them.
