Obituary of Nicole Yvette Dubois

April 7, 1968 – February 15, 2025

With great love and sadness, we announce the passing of Nicole Yvette Dubois on February 15, 2025, at the age of 56. She left us quietly, just as she lived—surrounded by love, her books, and her beloved cats.

Nicole was a devoted mother to Julian and Luca, and her greatest joy in life was being their mom. She often said each of them came into her life at exactly the right time. Nicole is also survived by her sister Andrea Yuen (Ray Yuen), her grandson Bentley Shore, many cousins, and Ted Miller, Luca’s partner, whom she was happy to welcome into the family. She was predeceased by her parents, Roger and Bev Dubois (2015).

A dedicated Legal Assistant, Nicole approached her work with the same quiet determination she applied to everything in life. Though she preferred the comfort of home, a good book, and a quiet evening over big gatherings, she had her moments of adventure. Despite her deep love for staying close to family, she once surprised everyone by packing up and moving to Newfoundland for a few years. Later, after being diagnosed with lung cancer, she took a solo cruise to the Panama Canal—one of those little bursts of adventure that made her life uniquely hers.

Nicole was an avid reader, with a lifelong love of romance novels. She was also a talented baker, known for her beautifully decorated cakes and the Christmas treats she loved to share. And if there was an opportunity to enjoy chocolate, she took it—no excuse needed.

In the last year of her life, Nicole found love again with Mike Slater. Though their time together was brief, it was full of meaning—proof that love isn’t measured in years but in depth.

In her final months, Nicole was grateful to be in the palliative care program, which allowed her to stay at home, where she was happiest. Our family is deeply grateful to the WRHA Palliative Care team and home care staff, whose kindness and support allowed Nicole to spend her last months in comfort and peace, surrounded by warmth and love.

Nicole wished for a simple farewell, preferring quiet over ceremony. In lieu of a service, we invite you to honour Nicole’s memory in whatever way feels right—whether it’s enjoying a good book, savouring a piece of chocolate, or taking a small adventure of your own.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
