Obituary of Audrey Marilyn Thompson
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Audrey M. Thompson, 92, of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Audrey passed peacefully in her home on February 25, 2025. Born on February 5, 1933, in Oberon, North Dakota, Audrey spent half her life in the United States and living in London, England and Belfast, Northern Ireland.
She graduated from Central High School in Fargo, North Dakota, and pursued further education at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, attending for two years.
Audrey built a fulfilling life in Winnipeg starting in 1980 where she was an active and engaged member of the community. She was a dedicated participant in the American Women’s Club of Winnipeg and shared her passion for history by providing guided tours at Dalnavert Museum for 15 years. Audrey was active in the Women’s Committee of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and volunteered at Things Consignment shop.
A lifelong learner and avid reader, Audrey was a member of a mystery book club.
Travel was another great passion- until the age of 84 she explored the world alongside her daughter as part of a travel group for women.
She enjoyed the jazz, theater and art Winnipeg had to offer.
Audrey is survived by her daughter, Leslie Thompson of Minneapolis, Minnesota as well as nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the United States. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harlyn Thompson; son, Philip Thompson; sister, Patricia Olson; brother Howard Jacobson; and parents, Hilmer and Lena Jacobson.
Many thanks to the staff of Comfort Keepers who assisted Audrey in being able to stay in her home with her cherished cat Maggie until the end.
A Celebration of Life will be held this summer, date to be determined, in the English Gardens of Assiniboine Park, a favorite place of Audrey’s.
Audrey‘s adventurous spirit and dedication to community will be fondly remembered by those who knew her.
