Obituary of Clare Inako Matsuo
With great love and sadness, we announce the passing of our mom, Clare Matsuo at the age of 93. She was born on September 21, 1931, in Vancouver, BC. and passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on March 22, 2025.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sam, and is survived by her children: Lori (Steve), Kim (Jeff), and Bobbi (Martyn); her grandchildren: Jason (Dana), Sean, Chad (Ashton), Eddie (Marco), and Shayna (Mark); and her great-grandchildren: Knox, Brooks, and Ford. She is also survived by her sister, Rosanne Yoshimasu (Paul), sister-in-law, Lee Matsuo, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Clare met Sam in Winnipeg, where their beautiful 71-year love story began. Her world revolved around him and their family and her whole life was spent taking care of them, giving endless love and support whenever it was needed. She was the ultimate homemaker, creating a warm and loving environment for everyone around her.
Clare was an avid seamstress spending hours each day sewing beautiful outfits for her daughters, nieces and grandchildren. She also contributed her creations to the yearly church bazaar, along with her delicious baked goods.
The comforting aroma of freshly baked cookies, slices, pies and cakes always filled Grandma’s house making every visit warm, inviting and delicious!
She was referred to as a breath of fresh air—kind, gentle, loving and always grateful for the smallest acts of kindness.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Devonshire House II, Clare’s Home Care team, and River East Personal Care Home for their compassionate care.
A Mass will be held in her honor at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 505 Brewster Street on May 31, 2025, at 11:00 am . A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
