Gerald Kohler

Obituary of Gerald Kohler

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Gerald Kohler on March 26, 2025 at the age of 68, leaving behind a void that will be felt by those who knew him.

Born in Schweinfurt Bavaria Germany, he immigrated to Canada in 1968. As a child, he played soccer but would wonder off, to be found at the edge of the field picking flowers. This must have been the start of his love for nature and being outdoors.

He met his wife Lise in 1975. In 1977, they welcomed their only child Sherry-Lise. They finally got married in 1986. They loved spending time out at his wife’s family cabin in St. Malo, spending nights by the fire telling stories, and early mornings Gerry would wake up, get ready and wake all the nieces and nephews to go on hikes and nature walks. I know those are fond memories that his nieces and nephews will remember and hold onto. Oh, and we cannot forget the endless scary movies that he would put on.

He loved all animals and had snakes, tarantula’s, iguanas, and so many more, but mostly his dog Brandy, who he taught to understand English, German, and sign commands.

In 1997, Gerald and Lise became grandparents. Gerald would pass on tradition of his love for nature and animals to his granddaughter Chanel. In 2003, his only grandson would be born, Johnny, and then came Shayna-Lise in 2013, and lastly McKinley in 2019. In 2003 however, our lives would be shattered by the loss of his wife Lise. After this, he was never the same.

Gerald was predeceased by his wife Lise Kohler (Dubois); granddaughter Justice; father Gunter Koehler; mother and step father Regina and Harry Moxam; father in-law and mother in-law John and Aline Dubois; and brothers in-law John Dubois and Maurice Hupe.

Gerald is survived by his only child Sherry Kohler and her partner Jason; four grandchildren, Chanel (his jelly belly), John, Shayna-Lise, and Mckinley; brothers Klause (Joanne) Kohler and Karl Koehler; sister Marion (Luc) Koehler; and half sister Sharla (Russell) Schalla. From the Dubois side, Pauline (Terry) Kennedy, Ron (Diane) Dubois, Rolande Hupe, Denise (Rob) Tereck, Guy (Pearl) Dubois and sister in-law Sharon Lussier; as well as many nieces and nephews from both sides of the family.

Gerald is being cremated, and at this time we will not be holding a service. I will plan a gathering in the summer some time.

Rest easy dad, you are now with mom, where you always wanted to be.
