Obituary of John Peter de Kluyver
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John de Kluyver, at the age of 91 years old on October 21, 2024.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Suzanna; his son Peter (Kim) and their children Joshua, Matthew, and Kaytlyn; his daughters Maria (the late Derrick) and their children Michael and Kyle; and Sandra (Trevor) and their children Meghan and Briana.
John was part of a big family of siblings and in-laws whom he cherished throughout his life. His parents, Jan and Elsje; siblings Maarten (Anita), Wies (Bill), Pieter, Ria (Hans), Corrie (Shauna), and Pat (John). He also leaves behind dear friends Fred and Fem Algera, whose friendship he treasured.
John was born June 11, 1933 in Bielen, Netherlands. The family emigrated to Manitoba, Canada, in 1952, first settling on a farm in southern Manitoba before moving shortly thereafter to Home Street in Winnipeg.
John was a loving husband, father and Opa. He was always present in the lives of his family, offering support, guidance, and wisdom, and exemplifying the importance of service to others.
Dad loved spending time with his grandchildren - playing games, telling stories, showing them just how much they mean to him. Dad enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, walking, gardening and camping. Dad also had a large collection of books which he enjoyed reading and learning from. Dad loved to talk and visit with everyone he knew- even those he had just met. His friendly nature was a gift that served him well throughout his 24-year career at Red River College as a mechanical drafting instructor - a role he loved deeply and took great pride in.
Dad’s faith was steadfast and unshakable. Though dementia took much from Dad in his final years that faith never wavered – he held onto it with strength and certainty to the very end.
We have been blessed to have him in our lives. He taught us the importance of family, serving others and faith in our Lord and Savior. Though we miss him greatly we take comfort knowing he is now with the Lord in Paradise. As Dad would always remind us “The Best is Yet to Come”.
Till we meet again!
Special thanks to Lions Manor and staff who took such great care of Dad.
Celebration of Life will take place June 7, 2025 at Place of Grace Church, 1040 Beach Avenue at 11:00 a.m.
