Obituary of Joe Caruso
With deep sadness, the family of Giuseppe "Joe" Michael Caruso announces his passing on May 4, 2025, at the Pinawa Hospital, following a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was 79 years old.
Born in Italy on September 25, 1945, Joe immigrated to Canada as a young boy alongside his parents, embracing his new homeland while holding tightly to his roots. A proud Italian and a redhead — a rare and fiery combination — Joe was known for his passionate, headstrong nature and his unmistakable charm.
Joe had a deep love for the outdoors. He found joy and peace in gardening, especially when tending to his beloved tomato plants. Over the years, he planted many trees, leaving behind a living legacy that will continue to thrive. Joe was also an avid fisherman, often found casting a line off the dock at his cabin — one of his favorite places. He enjoyed puttering around and tinkering with things, always keeping busy with one project or another, whether it needed doing or not.
He was a man of strong opinions and a fiery temper, never one to shy away from a spirited debate — especially when it came to sports. Some of his most cherished (and loudest) arguments were with his late brother, with whom he shared a lifelong bond and rivalry. Despite his tough exterior, Joe had a deep desire to be loved and admired. He was a relentless flirt, charming everyone around him — even the nurses who cared for him in his final days.
Above all, Joe was a devoted father and proud Nonno. His love for his family was as fierce as his personality, and he leaves behind a legacy of strength, warmth, and unforgettable memories.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
The family thanks the nurses who cared for him at the Pinawa Hospital, the staff at the Adult Day Program and the Home Care staff for their kind and compassionate care of Dad.
