Obituary of Rene Mervin Chicoine
Rene Mervin Chicoine
January 30, 1964 – May 26, 2025
Rene was born in Redvers, SK, and passed away suddenly at the age of 61 in Winnipeg, MB.
He is survived by his children – Troy, Billy-Jack, Jennifer, Elie, and Nakita, eight grandchildren, mother – Mabel Wilk (Phil), brothers and sisters – Brian (Brenda), Brenda (Terry), Bonnie (Terry), Penny (Bruce), Lorie (Randy), as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father, Rene and nephew Allan.
Rene was raised in Storthoaks, SK where he attended elementary school up to grade nine. He then went on to Alternate Learning in Carnduff, SK and that is when he decided school was not his place and he entered the work force. He worked for a few years on the drilling rig and then moved to Brandon where he started his own family and worked various jobs. Rene took a welding course, welded on the side and worked as mechanic. Rene, also known as Joe to many, then moved to Winnipeg in 2007.
Rene was known for his incredible kindness and selflessness; he would go out of his way to help others—always willing to lend a helping hand no matter what it was. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. In recent years, Rene generously volunteered many hours at his grandchildren's school, always helping out wherever he could.
A private family service will take place at a later date. Donations could be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
