Obituary of Lorena Jean Raffard

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laurie Raffard, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children Paul (Rebecca), Stephanie (Jeremy), Justin, and Colleen (Kyle); as well as her grandchildren Chelsey (Igor), Dax, Jorge, Emile, and great-grandson Abel. A truly devoted wife and mother, her family was her first and only concern and she always put the needs of others well ahead of her own.

Laurie is predeceased by her husband Denis in 2010 and daughter Rachel in 2005. She left a nursing career to marry into farming and was no stranger to long work days, muddy boots, and smelly clothes. Denis sustained a severe injury in 2003 and without missing a beat, Laurie assumed the role of caring for him until his passing. It was during this difficult time that they lost their daughter Rachel to an automotive collision, leaving Chelsey in their care. Chelsey came to reciprocate this act in attending to some of Laurie’s daily needs as her mobility had deteriorated in recent years. Laurie was surely proud and grateful for the mature and intelligent woman that Chelsey was becoming. She leaves us with a legacy of unfailing goodwill and sacrifice that will echo through all of us.

There will be a private interment to be attended by immediate family only on Saturday, June 21, 2025, as per her final wishes, at the Otterburne Cemetery. Following interment, a celebration of life will be held at the Otterburne Curling Club at 2:00pm which will be open to extended family and friends where lunch and refreshments will be provided.
