Obituary of John Alfred Brough

On June 25th, John Alfred Brough, better known as “Jack”, passed away peacefully at the Luther  Home. He is predeceased by his parents Eric and Bessie, brother Billy, sister Betty and Kathy Brough.  He will be remembered and missed by his daughters Sandra (Mike) Jacoby and Wendy (Warren) Gobert, his granddaughters Stephanie (Karl), Larissa, and Ali,  ex-wife Barbara “Joy” Brough and special friends Connie and Axel.

Jack was born on August 27th, 1941 in Winnipeg. Growing up he played hockey, but as life went on he gravitated towards golf. Jack was a member at St. Boniface Country Club for decades, but frequented Kildonan Park in the last several years. He scored a hole in one FOUR times in his life: May 9, 1970 at Windsor on the 10th hole, August 1, 1982 at St. Boniface on the 12th hole, August 7, 1982 at St. Boniface on the 14th hole (yes, that is 6 days apart!) and lastly on August 4, 2015 at Kildonan Park on the 10th hole — right over the bridge. Jack was always down for a round of golf with his grandkids. He didn’t approve of using a “foot wedge” as he was a stickler for the rules, but you could count on some helpful advice.

Jack spent many years wintering in Texas golfing and escaping the Manitoba winters.  In the last number of years he played baseball in a “Seniors league” in addition to riding his bike all over the city and it wasn’t uncommon to come home to find him waiting in your driveway for a surprise visit. For so many of those years he was accompanied by his little buddy Mitzi; she went everywhere Jack did!

Jack was opinionated, passionate, and left an impression on everyone he met.

Thank you to the staff at the HSC Stroke Unit, Deer Lodge Centre, Poseidon Care Centre, and Luther Home for their hard work in making Jack comfortable over the last seven months.
