Obituary of Brenda Marlene Johnston

In Loving Memory of Brenda Marlene Johnston (nee Buckingham)

Brenda Marlene Johnston, born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, peacefully passed away at the age of seventy-seven, on March 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her devoted sons Keith (Maggie) and Kyle (Natasha) Johnston, her cherished grandson Brad Johnston, her brother Doug Buckingham (Joan), and niece Tina (Marcel). She is predeceased by her beloved parents, Jim and Betty Buckingham, her brother Robert, her husband Wayne Johnston, and her close companion, Jim Thomas.

Brenda's journey began in Stony Mountain, MB, where she spent her formative years before settling in Transcona, after a brief period in Binscarth, MB. She enjoyed a distinguished 30+ year career as an elementary school teacher, primarily in the Transcona-Springfield School Division, at Wayoata and Bernie Wolfe schools. Brenda developed countless relationships with her colleagues over the years and many of those friendships continued through her retired years.

Beyond her professional achievements, Brenda was an avid reader who also found joy in social gatherings with her dear friends and family. Whether it was supper clubs, card nights, or curling and softball outings, Brenda cherished these moments dearly. She also dedicated countless evenings to cheering on her two boys as they pursued their passions in minor sports.

The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Riverwood Square and Concordia Place for their care and compassion over the last eight years.

Brenda will be remembered fondly for her warmth, kindness, cheerful smile, and her unwavering dedication to her family and friends. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

As per Brenda’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family internment will be held at a later date.

May she rest in peace
