WINNIPEG, MB:  The passing of a loved one is a time of tremendous grief and upheaval, which is why Alterna Cremation in Winnipeg and Transcona strives to make the cremation process as smooth, simple, and dignified as possible.  While some Winnipeg funeral homes may send bodies as far away as Dauphin to be cremated, Alterna’s cremation services all take place at Kotaska Cremation Services in Selkirk, Manitoba.

Founded in 2019 by Ashley Newton, Alterna Cremation offers an alternative to more traditional funeral homes.  Focused on the provision of straightforward, accessible, and affordable direct cremation services, it has been built on a foundation of compassion and transparency.  Alterna takes hundreds of families into its care every year and is dedicated to building trusted relationships as it helps them navigate some of the hardest moments in their lives.  In addition to direct cremation services, Alterna also offers guidance in the pre-planning of final arrangements, grief support resources, obituary-writing services, scattering services, urns and keepsakes, and much more.  It serves all areas of Winnipeg, including Transcona, as well as surrounding communities.

When Ashley Newton founded Alterna, her vision was to provide a straightforward cremation option for families.  Having previously worked in larger, more traditional funeral homes, she saw the need for a dedicated direct cremation service with affordable, transparent processes.  Alterna’s cremation services all take place in Selkirk, Manitoba, and each body is handled with the utmost respect according to a rigorous set of operating policies and procedures.  If families wish, Alterna can walk them through every step of direct cremation, from the moment their loved one’s body is taken into care until the remains are returned.

“Some funeral homes in Winnipeg and Transcona are sending bodies as far away as Dauphin for cremation, but that is never the case at Alterna,” said Ashley Newton, the founder of Alterna Cremation.  “When we take your family into our care, you can rest secure in the knowledge that our services are all performed in Selkirk, Manitoba.”
