Obituary of Carol Louise Johnston
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Louise Johnston (Allison), peacefully and with family at her side, on May 7, 2024. Carol was born on February 4, 1944, spending her life in the Winnipeg and Petersfield areas of Manitoba.
Carol had many jobs over the years from a stay at home mom raising three children, to working with the artists at the Stoneware Gallery and handing out beauty advice to clients at Shoppers Drug Mart. She was lucky to have been able to retire with the assistance of her loving husband Phil who was always by her side.
Carol was an avid animal lover, caring for any and all that she came across! She would often remark on how concerned she was about an animal she would see out on cold winter days or in the heat of summer. She had many pets over the years from dogs and cats, to birds and turtles, while teaching her children how to care for other living creatures.
Before and after retirement, Carol had many hobbies from pottery in her younger years, to wood carving and ultimately settling in on painting later in life. She was also an avid reader and if you couldn’t find her in the kitchen trying to provide you with more food, you could find her out in the sunshine or on the boat with Phil, reading a good book!
She enjoyed the many years of gatherings with “the cousins” who played together as children at the Gimli cottage and continued to meet throughout their adult lives. From brunch get togethers to Christmas parties with the children and grand children of the cousins, Carol was always excited for these events.
Carol was fun, outgoing, and always looking forward to the next social event with her family and friends. She made many friends over the years from her homes in East Kildonan, Charleswood, St. Norbert, Petersfield, and all the way to Texas. Some of the friendships she forged have lasted her lifetime, many of whom supported her through life’s hardships and helped celebrate the happy times.
Carol will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband Phil Allison, sister Donna Ashby (George), brother Ernest Johnston (Evelyn). Her children Marci, Jason (Kelly), and Cory (Alexandra), and their father Bill. Her stepchildren Sherry (Darrell), Phil, and Shelly. Her grandchildren Mitchell (Katharine), Daniel (Kayla), Samantha (Josh), Benjamin (Courtney), Ava, Ella (Leonard), Ewan, Allison (Anthony), Daniel (dec.), Alexis (Matt), Philip James Jr, Aaron, Hanna, Samantha, and Hayden. Her great-grandchildren Hannah, Isla, Grace, and Henry. As well as many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents Halldor Pall Johnston and Daisy Pearl Cook.
The family would like to thank the Rosewood Lodge Personal Care Home in Stonewall Manitoba for their care and support over the past two years. The family would also like to thank the staff in the Emergency ward at the Stonewall & District Health Centre for the care and support to both her and her family members in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol’s name can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
