Obituary of Fiona MacDonald Sanderson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fiona MacDonald Sanderson (Greig).  Fiona passed away peacefully at De Salaberry District Health Centre in St Pierre-Jolys MB, after a long battle with cancer on May 1, 2024.

Fiona was born in Glasgow Scotland on April 17, 1958.

On June 11, 1958 Fiona, her parents and her oldest sister left Liverpool, England on the Sylvania.  They arrived in the port of Quebec on June 17th and stayed in Quebec City for several months, before taking the train West.

She is survived by the love of her life Albert Sanderson; son Christopher Haacke (Candace), daughter Stefani (Ryan) Bright, step-children Robert and Corrine Sanderson; sisters Catherine (Bruce) Hill and Bonnie (Travis) Cochran; brother Rob Greig; in-laws Beatrice, Harvey (Dianne) and Gladys (Henry); along with many nieces and nephews and extended family.

She was predeceased by her parents, James and Catherine Greig.

Fiona worked most of her career doing Payroll and Benefits. St Rose Du Lac Hospital and Prolific Group were a couple of her longer commitments in this career, with a few others along the way. She finished her working career and retired with Hanover School Division as an Administrative Assistant.

Fiona who was also known as Fi, had the biggest heart, she was a beautiful woman inside and out. She always made sure her family, friends and even coworkers knew they were appreciated and taken care of. She never missed an opportunity to give a gift (or five) for any celebration especially for her grand babies.

On behalf of Fiona, we would like to say a special thank you to the staff at St. Pierre Hospital for their compassion and care they offered while taking care of her.

At Mum’s request a cremation has taken place, there will be no funeral.
