Obituary of Larry Robert Payne
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Robert Payne on May 9th 2024, at the age of 73, after a brief illness.
At the end, as throughout his life, he was surrounded by the love of his family and the camaraderie of his friends.
Larry is survived by his wife Lee; his children Jeff, Janet, Candace, Mike and Tricia; and his many foster children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Larry and Lee married in 1979. They were adventurous together, a part of the High Rollers 4x4 club where they raced obstacle courses in his Datson pickup and Blue Ford Bronco. In their later years, their adventurous spirit brought them camping for many happy summers until they purchased raw land for a cottage that Larry built himself.
Larry worked in the lumber industry since the age of 19, starting at Chimo, then at Charleswood Building Supplies and retiring in 2022 from McMunn & Yates.
Larry was generous to a fault. His door was always open to family, foster children, friends, and strangers. Wherever Larry was, there was a fire to sit by and cold beer in the fridge.
Whatever he approached in life, whether fishing, building, hockey, ceramics, leather tanning, beer and wine making, cooking seafood boils or hosting epic themed parties, Larry’s motto was: “Go big or Go home”!
We would like to thank the amazing staff on the 3rd floor of the Grace Hospital for the wonderful care they gave.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of his life will be held on August 22, 2024 at the Charleswood Legion, Club Room, 6003 Roblin Blvd, 7:00 pm,
