Obituary of Christopher Arthur Banner

Chris died doing the thing he loved: riding his motorcycle. He had driven from his home in Shawnigan Lake, BC, on Vancouver Island, to Ottawa to visit his children and grandchildren.

On June 25, on his return journey, he was involved in an accident in Manitoba. He died in Winnipeg from his injuries on June 28, 2024.

We are so grateful that he made this amazing journey: at the end, motorcycling to visit his family, and before that, living a life full of stories and episodes, whose retelling we will embark on in the days to come.

Chris is survived by his wife, Lenore Hietkamp; children, Crispin, Shelby, Rhianon, and Merit; seven grandchildren; and brothers, Ian and Adrian.

Chris was a writer. His last words to his wife that morning were, “I’ll ride until I can’t.”

Please consider a donation in Chris’s name to the hospital, Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, where he spent his last days receiving excellent care and where his family experienced extraordinary compassion and guidance during a very difficult time: Health Sciences Centre Foundation, https://www.hscfoundation.mb.ca
