John Ackland

Obituary of John Gordon Ackland

It is with profound sadness that we announce Jack passed away on July 11, 2024 at the age of 72. He was born September 4, 1951 & is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jeanette, his son Tom & wife, Christina, grandchildren; Hannah, Jackson, Nick, Ivorie & Athena, brother Jim (Gloria) and many nieces & nephews.

He was predeceased by his father Allan, his mother, Pearl and brothers Alan & Russell.

Growing up in Ft. Rouge he enjoyed many hours at Lord Robert Community Club playing basketball, baseball, football & hockey.

Jack attended Churchill High School & played basketball but excelled in football as a quarterback for the Churchill Bulldogs. He was inducted into the CHS Hall of Fame in 2007 & the Manitoba Hall of Fame in 2016. Every year he looked forward to & wouldn’t miss the Hall of Fame Alumni dinner. He had many fond memories that he truly cherished of the years coaching Hockey & Football.

He retired from MLCC in 2013 after over 30+ years of service.

He was blessed with 5 grandchildren that he truly adored & loved.

Summers you could always find him at the pool socializing with neighbors discussing anything and everything but especially the Jets & Bombers.

A special thank you to the Doctors & nursing staff at Grace Hospital for their compassion during this very difficult time. A Huge Thank You to best friends, Barrie & Cathy Daman for always being there.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday September 15, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Lord Roberts Community Centre, 725 Kylemore Avenue Winnipeg. Please RSVP to Christina Ackland 204-996-6933 call or text.

He will be sorely missed by all who knew & loved him.

A “Rouger” til the end.
