It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Muriel Roffey on December 31, 2019 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg at the age of 86 years. She is survived by her loving husband, David; daughter Liz (Rob); sons Mark, Paul (Janice) and John (Kim); and grandchildren Adam, Christina, Maya, Sam, Emily, Catherine, Nate and Luke.
When Muriel was most recently in hospital, her main goal was to get up and get home. Home meant so many things to her over the years. Home was the comfort of her 63-year marriage to David. They met on a train coming back from the west coast and on their second date, he asked her to marry him. She said yes. Home meant the chaos of raising four busy kids, pets and all that entailed. Later in life, her eight grandchildren added to her joy. Nana was always a soft spot for them to land.
During David’s career, the family traveled to various places: Winnipeg to Philadelphia, Philadelphia to Montreal (which she particularly liked), and ultimately back to Winnipeg. Muriel was a willing participant in these moves, always making a beautiful home for her boys and daughter.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of Muriel’s life will be held at a later date. The family extends their appreciation to the doctors and nurses at the St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations in Muriel’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
