George Sorestad

Obituary of George Julius Sorestad

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our dad, George Sorestad, on August 20, 2024.  He was weeks shy of his 100th birthday and he was looking forward to that milestone.

George Julius Sorestad was born to Edd and Gyda Sorestad on September 12, 1924 in Canora, Saskatchewan.  He grew up and lived on the family farm in Buchanan, Saskatchewan until March 2015 when he and Judy moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba to live with Myra and Dallas due to health problems.

George married Judy in Valdosta, Georgia on June 4, 1983 and became a dad to Myra and a year later he was happy to welcome his son Neil, to complete the family unit.

George loved the farm life. He spent as much time as he could in the outdoors tending to his gardens, flowers, berry picking, chickens and crops.  He also kept busy with his weekly egg route to Buchanan and surrounding area for many years as well as selling meat birds.  Another passion of his was to keep up with current events and writing letters to relatives and friends.

Gardening and farming were his passion and he shared that with his son, Neil.

If we ever needed to find Dad, we knew that we could find him in one of the gardens, in the field, or in the chicken house.  Those are the memories that we will cherish the most.

George is predeceased by his parents, Edd and Gyda Sorestad; and his wife Judy Sorestad.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Myra and Dallas Davis; his son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Jamie; and granddaughters, Kelci and Kendall.

A graveside burial will take place at Elim Cemetery at a later date.

Jamie said it best “He was a gentle soul and loved his family dearly”.
