Obituary of Ernest Lawrence Johnston
Ernest Lawrence Johnston passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Riverview Health Centre after a brief battle with cancer.
Ernie was born January 4, 1948 at the “Old” Grace Hospital, in Winnipeg. He was the baby of the family! He resided in Winnipeg for most of his life, with the exception of 3 years when his work loaned him to Ottawa.
In the summer of 1973, Ernie met the love of his life, his future wife, Evelyn at an MTS organized baseball game. A short time later Ernie joined MTS as an electrical engineer and ended up spending his entire professional career there. He worked his way up to a managerial position and of course, Evelyn was there! Ernie and Evelyn had two sons while they were living in Ottawa.
Ernie loved golf, curling, travel, spending time outdoors, watching the Jets and the Bombers, playing bridge with his friends, Gary, Craeg, and Terry, and many family dinners. Throughout his life he made a positive impact on the lives of many people and he will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn, his sons Michael (Carey) and Christopher, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary-Jane and Reinhard, his brother-in-law George Ashby, brother-in-law Phil Allison, nieces and nephews: Marci, Brent, Heather, Jason, Cory, Nathan and Aaron as well as many cousins.
