Obituary of Gwen Stephanie Clibbery-King

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gwen Clibbery-King on September 8th, 2024, at the age of 67. Gwen was born on June 9th, 1957, in Beausejour, MB, to her loving parents Gordon and Gladys Clibbery (née Drabyk).

Gwen was a spirited and active youth, involved in CGIT, 4-H, and music. Singing brought her joy, and her father's playful teasing would often lead to a lighthearted exchange. He would say, "Gweny, do you know how to sing over the hills and far away?" To which Gwen would reply, "No," and Gordon would humorously suggest, "Then go sing over the hills and far away."

Gwen had a lifelong love for animals, which began in childhood when the family dog, Tiny, gave birth to a litter of puppies in her bed. Throughout her life, Gwen’s dogs—Bogart, Destiny, and Mr. Bijoux—were cherished members of her family.

A creative soul, Gwen expressed herself through baking and crafting. She took great joy in making beautiful Christmas wreaths and decorations that brightened the holiday season. Her talent for crafting and her thoughtful baking were enjoyed by family and friends alike.

Gwen is survived by her siblings Jean, Marlene (Wyatt), Pamela (Jim), and David (Diana). She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, along with numerous close friends. Gwen was predeceased by her father Gordon, her mother Gladys, her brother-in-law Raymond Walklett, and her dearly loved friend Fred Andresen.

One of Gwen's greatest accomplishments was becoming a Registered Nurse, graduating from the St. Boniface Hospital School of Nursing in 1982. Her compassion and dedication were evident throughout her career. In recent years, Gwen became close friends with several Ukrainian newcomers to Canada, and her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to them for their kindness and companionship.

Special thanks go to cousin Margaret and sister Marlene for their frequent and cherished phone visits with Gwen.

In accordance with Gwen’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal funeral service. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to a no-kill animal shelter or a charity of your choice.

May happiness come on secret winds

and surround you forever in ways of beauty.
