Obituary of Robert James Harris

Bob passed away at the age of 71 at Donwood Manor on January 13, 2020. He's survived by his wife Kathy; and many wonderful friends, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Reg and Maisie ; his step-dad Joe Legarde; his sister Rose; brother in-law Bill Knutson; parents-in-law Arthur and Kathleen Knutson; and several cousins, aunts and uncles. Kathy used to tease Bob that he was "born talking"! He definitely loved talking to people and socializing. He was always quick with one liners or trying to rhyme things. He was born in Nakina, in north western Ontario. His dad and four brothers came from England and all had Rheumatic Fever which passed heart troubles down the line. Bob’s father Joe was a guide for fishermen, hunters, and was even written up in a book called "Traplines North". Bob came to Winnipeg at age 18 and had many Shipping and Receiving jobs. His best job was as a Salesman, among other things, at House of Nutrition, a health food store. It was special that his niece Liz also worked at such a store. He also enjoyed being a Healthcare Companion especially when playing Crib with his client! Bob & Kathy met through the Personal Column of the Winnipeg Free Press and they were married on May 8, 1976. They both loved children but sadly waited 10 years for adoption before giving up! They did a lot of hospitality and the church, friends became their family. One couple, Sheryl & Gerry Weiss 'adopted' Bob & Kathy into their family having previously 'adopted' Marion Adam as a sister as she had no family either. Bob had a stroke in May 2006, moved to Donwood Manor in December of 2013. He made many friends there and knew EVERYONE'S names on 2 South! He enjoyed the daily activities and watching his favorite TV shows. Kathy came several times a week to visit; friends and men from churches also visited which was GREATLY appreciated! Special thanks to the wonderful caring staff on 2 South at Donwood Manor, Pastor Jonathan and many others for all their visits and prayers. A memorial service will be held at Rowandale Baptist Church, 162 Rowandale Ave. on Saturday January 25th 2020 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Donwood Manor Foundation Inc..
