Obituary of Dale Lidfors

In gratefulness of a life well lived, Dale passed away peacefully on October 29th with his wife by his side. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Joan, daughters, Cheryl Karklin (Glen), Shannon Hughesman (Darren), Alanna Wilcox (Brian) and grandchildren Tannis, Ryan Dale, Kaeli, Mason, Chloe and Jordan. Born in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, Dale graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and began his career in Regina at Wascana Center. In 1968 he moved his family to Pinawa, Manitoba to begin working for Atomic Energy of Canada. Life was good in Pinawa where friends became family. Dale spent many happy years with his wife and daughters camping, taking family vacations, golfing, curling, and enjoying his annual fishing trips with friends. Dale will be remembered for his dry wit and running commentary during card games and when watching sporting events. Dale grew up working in his father’s construction company learning carpentry skills that he would later use renovating the family homes. His skills were always in demand and he readily shared them with his children, grandchildren, and friends. He was an active member of the community working on many boards and was an integral part of the construction of the Pinawa Lutheran Church. Dale retired in his mid 50’s and spent his retirement with his wife of 61 years traveling the world, wintering in Arizona, spending time with his grandchildren and enjoying life in Pinawa with family and friends. Dad was a kind, quiet, strong family man. A man of few words but always there to support and listen. Living in an all female house, Dad was always able to remain the voice of reason. Sincere thanks to the staff of HSC ICU, Beausejour Hospital and the Selkirk General Hospital Surgical Ward for the compassion and care shown to our dad and mom during this time. If family/friends so desire, donations can be made in Dad’s memory to the Pinawa Foundation (Day of Giving – Nov 14), Lutheran World Relief or a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
