I just found out through an ex-colleague that Cathy has passed away. I have known Cathy for years through work but we would only see each other once a year at our annual Managers Meeting. I loved seeing her every year. We always made each other laugh and we were often purposely put at opposite ends of the room. We were always told it was so we would be paired up with junior Mangers but we often thought it was so the two of us would behave.
Then after the meeting we would all gather somewhere to talk and Cathy would be busy knitting away.
The next meeting is going to be hard without her.

I grew up next door to Cathy since I was 4 years old. Cathy and I walked to school every day for 12 years! I have so many fond memories of her and our adventures together. I would run into her over the years and it was always a fun conversation. She was a great gal and my heart goes out to her family.

Cathy was one of my favourite regulars at work. I work at the Starbucks at St.Vital mall and she would always come see me before she started work. She brought her own mermaid tumbler and always had a decaf Sumatra pour over coffee until they discontinued it and she started ordering something else. I would always have her decaf pour over ready to go before she arrived to the store so she wouldn’t have to wait so long for it. (Usually takes 4 mins to brew). One of my favourite memories was two winters ago when her car got stuck in the mall parking lots from all of the snow. I remember seeing this small car get stuck (Starbucks has windows that faced the parking lot so I could clearly see) and to my surprise, it was Cathy who got out of the car! She then came to my store and wasn’t sure what to do. I put on my winter jacket, came outside, and actually pushed her car out of the pile of snow. We both laughed about it after, and I gave her a complimentary coffee for her troubles. I will deeply miss Cathy. She had such an amazing spirit about her and was always cheerful. Anytime I see decaf Sumatra, Cathy is always the first to come to my mind. I bet you she is enjoying a nice hot cup of decaf Sumatra right now. Her Starbucks family will deeply miss her.

I had the privilege of working with Cathy for over a year at her wonderful kiosk Things Engraved. She made me feel so welcomed and always there to give me a helping hand, an ear to talk off or advice about my soon travel plans. I'm still shocked that she is no longer with us. My sincere condolences to the family. She will be greatly missed but i do believe i have been changed for the better because i knew you. RIP my friend.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Cathy was an amazing coworker and friend, she was always there if you had a question or just needed someone to vent to. She cared about about her staff and coworkers. In an emergency she would always help you out. I've known her for over 5 years now. Cathy was a passionate Winnipeg Jets fan, I'll miss our talks together about the Jets. We always talked about going to a game together but never found the time. I will treasure the couple times we went out for supper together outside of work, but wish we had gone out more. Cathy loved her cats and would always have interesting stories about them. She had such a unique, sarcastic personality that was just fun to be around. She would easily have you laughing with her funny stories. I'm in such shock that she's gone, the other day I picked up the phone to call her and then it hit me all over again. We all lost a great soul far to young and will miss her terribly. Thinking of her family and wish you all strength during this time. She was an amazing lady that gave so much to those around her. Miss you Cathy.

Cathy was a favorite childhood friend.......I have many cherished memories of her, Tracey and their Mom and Dad in Winnipeg, Sandy Hook, Winnipeg Beach and Beaver Creek....badminton and croquet and collecting shells. What a tragic loss. Sending warm wishes that happy memories provide some comfort during this terribly sad time. Sincerely, Susan Riley

I am saddened and confused about the passing of my friend Cathy. Cathy and I have worked together and shared a lot of good memories together. Cathy was an amazing woman. I’ve never seen Cathy without a smile or a kind word. Cathy loved her three cats and was a passionate reader. Cathy loved to knit Every Christmas Cathy would carry a suitcase full of scarfs of all colours that she had made and distribute them though the mall to all the people she worked with and knew . She also made cat blankets that she took to the human society. She was so driven to always do the best at her job, always taking on more so her staff didn’t have to. I will miss her and always remember her great spirit and fortitude and above all her genuine caring and kindness to all. Tell people you love them hug them and always be grateful for a new day. We’re only here for a second.....then gone....R.I.P. my dear friend . Respectfully and with love and condolences to the family, a friend Joy
