Obituary of Eleanor Peterson
It is with deep sadness we announced the peaceful passing of Eleanor Peterson on March 17, 2021.
She will be greatly missed by her children Mag Knox (Drew), Sandy (Michele D’Elia); grandchildren Paige Knox, Sean Knox (Caitlin); and sister Susie/Marg Tymko (Al). She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends.
She was predeceased by her son Charlie in 2002; husband Gord in 2016; parents Valentine and Mary; and brothers Val and Alec.
Eleanor was born on the family farm in Cowan Manitoba; the first of four children. She began her education attending grade school a couple miles from their farm not knowing any English. This was the beginning of a life long love of reading and quest for knowledge. At the age of 18 she took on a teaching position at a one room schoolhouse in Cowan East. She then came to Winnipeg and began working at the Hudson Bay Company, before moving on to MTS, where she met her husband of 57 years Gord. She was an exceptional baker known for her delicate Vinaterta , an avid gardener, sewer, bowler, and talented artist who was the Official Art tester for the Brownies (aka Snowy Owl).
Season ticket holder for the Bombers and a huge Toronto Blue Jays fan, enjoying many a bus trip to Minneapolis to see the Jays.
Many summers spent traveling with her family on camping trips all over North America. In their retirement, month long trips to Barbados were their favourite. Later on, they enjoyed bus tours throughout Canada and the USA., as well as a once in a lifetime tour of Australia, where lasting family friendships were formed.
Her grandchildren meant the world to her and would be lovingly reminded to smarten up in her no nonsense way. She was the apple lady of the neighbourhood, instructing the Grandchildren in all manner of apple picking.
Many visits with Mrs. G. over the years, trading stories about the families brought much joy and laughter.
She was able to remain in her home with the help of her trusted ladies. We are ever grateful to Tiggy, Verna, Christina, Marlene and Leah for helping us.
In accordance with Eleanor’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Make A Wish Foundation.
The wind now carries your voice, the sun your smile, the birds your spirit, and the clouds your wisdom, but we carry your love.
