Obituary of Ronald William Melville
It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Ronnie.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Jane; son Graeme (Tanya) and daughter Leigh (Jamie); grandchildren, Fiona, Scott, and Piper; brother Jack (Isobel); sisters Margaret (Bill) and Christine (John). Ronnie will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and many friends.
Ronnie was predeceased by his parents Agnes and Willie Melville in Dumbarton, Scotland.
Ronnie was born in Dumbarton, Scotland the youngest of four children.
He married the love of his life Jane in 1970 and welcomed the birth of his son, Graeme in 1971.
In 1972, Ronnie and family immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba.
In 1974, Ronnie welcomed the birth of his daughter, Leigh.
He started a new career at CNR as a machinist where he remained until his retirement in 2010.
His love of football (soccer) allowed him to play and then later referee for over a combined 40 years. He always kept a keen eye on the results of the Glasgow Rangers and his beloved Dumbarton Football Club.
He enjoyed a pint, a good laugh, and the company of family and friends. His grandchildren will miss his jokes, outings, and most of all, his usual comment (with a balled-up fist) “Do you want to go to the moon”?!
A special thank you to Ronnie’s doctors, nurses, and the home care workers from WRHA.
Cremation has taken place and no funeral services will be held. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Gone is the face we loved so dear.
Silent is the voice we loved to hear.
Too far away for sight or speech.
But not too far for thoughts to reach.
Gone, but Never Forgotten.
