Obituary of Nicholas Stanley Wasurchak

It is with sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Nick on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at the St. Boniface Hospital due to heart failure at the age of 70 years 6 months. Nick was born on December 19, 1950 to Elizabeth and Michael Wasurchak at the Dauphin General Hospital. He was named Nicholas because he was born on St. Nicholas Day and Stanley was his father’s brother’s name. Nick attended Whitmore, Smith Jackson and the DCTI for his education and for his Grade 12, he attended St. Joseph’s College in Yorkton, Sask. Nick attended Brandon University. After University, Nick became a counsellor at Guy Hill in The Pas, Manitoba. Nick returned to Dauphin and worked for a time at Allard Motors, and then went on to become a postal carrier at the Dauphin Post Office. Nick married in 1974 and his daughter Nicole was born in 1976. Nick worked for Canada Post for almost 22 years when he took early retirement in 1997 due to his health issues. Nick had the support of his parents and family, and his life went on. In April 2017, with health issues, Nick became a resident at the Dauphin Personal Care Home, where he resided for 29 months. On September 6, 2019, Nick relocated to Winnipeg and moved into River Ridge 2- an Assisted Retirement Home arrangement, which Nick enjoyed for the past 23 months and was extremely happy in this Home of his until his passing. Nick had said that when he moved into his one bedroom suite – “This is my new Home, I like it and I am in a happy place”. Nick is survived by his daughter Nicole Wasurchak, Dauphin; sisters Barbara Rzesnoski (Terry), East St. Paul and Michele Way, Delta B.C.; nephews Kris Rzesnoski (Anastasia), Winnipeg, Rob Rzesnoski (Erin), Anola; nieces Breigh and Emma Way; great nieces, Elizabeth and Alexandria Rzesnoski; great nephew Denver Rzesnoski; and numerous cousins. Our sincere thank you to all the staff at River Ridge 2 (Chassity), the Winnipeg Fire Dept, the Paramedics and the Doctor and medical staff at St. Boniface Hospital who did all they could to save Nick's life. As per Nick’s wishes, cremation has taken place and he will laid to rest on his parent’s gravesite in Dauphin. Due to Covid and restrictions, interment will take place at a future date. Rest in peace, Dear Dad, Nick and Uncle Nick. You are now in a pain free place and you will be with Mom and Dad and Baba and Dido Boyko. Vichnaya Pamyat
