Obituary of Verna Probetts
On June 19, 2019 Verna passed away in her husband’s arms after a short hospital stay.
Left to cherish Verna’s memory is her husband, Gordon, of over 66 years. Verna will also be lovingly remembered by her daughter Debbie (Ernie), son Daryl (Susan), grandchildren Justine, Nigel, Olivia and Renée as well as many other family members and friends in both Sheho, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg.
Verna was born in the farming community of Sheho, SK and made the bold move to Winnipeg when she was only 18. Once there, she lived in a rooming house where she met many young women in similar circumstances, some of whom would become lifelong friends.
At the age of 21, she met Gordon and they were married on September 6, 1952. Verna managed to successfully balance work and raising a family. The Probetts home was a gathering place for family and friends both young and old. There was always lots of food, lovingly prepared by Verna, as well as joy and laughter. She was famous for her perogies and her butter tarts were legendary.
Her grandchildren cherished their visits to grandma’s where there was much love, patience and indulgence. Those memories will be with them for the rest of their lives.
After a stroke in 2014, Verna showed her grit and determination to return home for over 5 years. Gordon dedicated his time and devotion to making the last years of her life as happy and comfortable as possible. Verna was forever grateful for the support and care provided by Gordon, as are her children. The bond between Verna and Gordon remains eternally strong.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the home care and hospital staff and all the support provided by friends and family over the past few weeks.
Rest In Peace and bravo for a life well lived!
A celebration of life will be held in September.
