We've been away from Winnipeg for so long, and it's hard to believe I only learned today of Roger's passing. I had been a labourer at the Winnipeg Diesel Shop for a few years when Roger arrived - and what an impression he made on everyone! He brought obvious mastery of his trade, great humour, and a touch of class to our environment. We knew each other only at work, but took many opportunities to chat. We lost touch when I moved to Montreal in 1984 to work for the union. The last time we reconnected was on a visit back to the shop on June 25, 2002, where we resumed our conversations briefly, and I took this photo. My sincere condolences to his family. May his memory always be a comfort and a blessing. - Abe Rosner

Dear Roger, my wonderful Uncle, he was such fun, as a child he had such stories to tell, but his jokes and sense of humour were legendary. My darling Dad and Roger would go fishing at Whitebridge the Dead River and Northbrook, Roger laughing at my dad casting and getting the hook caught in the trees, several times. My Mum, his sister adored him and together had many laughs. When young, he loved to go to the forbidden Truby's Cafe and The Dog, which was a Gramp's haunt and Nan's (his beloved Mum) nightmare in keeping them all on the straight and narrow! The video tribute sum's up his life beautifully. Love you Roger, a great uncle who will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Our hearts go out to you Wendy and the family.

Roger was family . Fun times and funny conversations were always on the menu . He is certainly going to be greatly missed by us ( his extended family ) I guess our last visit together we were playing a card game and wearing silly hats for Christmas celebration. In honour of Roger we had some fine Belgian beer which we all know he enjoyed. I sang a song to say goodbye to him called Across the Great Divide , Luc Celine and myself will always remember the time we got to share with Roger . Big hugs, strength and courage to Wendy and the rest of our extended families. Love from Belgium .

It was always such a pleasure to be in the company of Roger, Wendy and family over the last 13 years. We celebrated many family events together which Roger and all of us so enjoyed. He showed his great love for Wendy , his children and grandchildren in so many ways by his loving gestures. I will cherish the memories of all the happy times spent together over the years with Roger and his family. We will miss him dearly and the love he shared with us.

I worked with Roger from 1983 until his retirement at CP Rail. I apprenticed under him and learned so much. He nicknamed me “ Nigel”. Can’t remember why lol. He was a great guy with an even greater sense of humour. He will be missed. Condolences to Wendy and family. Friend and Coworker Kelly Neufeld

Roger was a great neighbor. He was always willing to help with auto problems or just to give expert advice. Both Roger and Wendy are/were a joy to have as neighbors since 2002.
