Obituary of Helen Mary Elizabeth Salmon

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that on Thursday October 14, 2021, we said our final goodbyes to our dear wife, mom, and grandma. With her family by her side, Helen passed away at St. Boniface hospital at the age of 69. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Bob; daughters Lorrie (George) and Joanne (Derek); granddaughter Violet; brother Michael (Victoria); brother-in-law Don (Laurel Lee), Gilles; and sister-in-law Alison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Alice and Armand Desautels,; her mother and father-in-law, Jim and Phyllis Salmon; as well as sisters Lorraine Delveaux and Cecile Desautels. Helen was born in Winnipeg and raised on St. Charles Street. She attended St. Charles Catholic School, as well as John Taylor Collegiate. In the summer of 1971, she met the love of her life, Bob and they were married later that same year. They would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on October 29th of this year. Helen was a stay-at-home mom whose family meant everything to her. Once her children started school, she provided in home childcare to many children that she grew to love as her own. She retired in 1994 to spend quality time with Bob. Helen loved to travel, her favorite was to go by train. She was able to go coast to coast and made many cherished memories with Bob. She also loved road trips to the states for shopping and going to the casinos. Cooking and baking as well as getting together with family and friends to have dinner, was one of her most favorite things to do and many good times were had after playing cards and games. In her spare time, she loved to read, crochet, and watch TV. She will be remembered for her love of the holidays and decorating for every occasion. Some would think Christmas exploded in the house. Helen was the glue of the family. With her daily phone calls (Usually 2 or 3), She was always the mediator and the one that always made things ok. She insured that everyone always stuck together. We will love you forever and miss you always. Rest in Peace. At Helens wishes a family service will be held at a later date, when everyone can safely gather.
