Obituary of Ed Stefanyshen
On the morning of February 7th, 2022, after a steady decline in strength, Ed passed peacefully into his eternal sleep at the age of 84. He will be remembered by the love of his life Simone, his children Julien (Brenda), Andrea (Megatron), Patty (Jay), Diana, Matthew (Angel), Daniel, and Christina (Nathan); grandchildren Emily, (Jon), Owen, Samantha, Chantelle, Christopher, Aaron, Isabella, and Makenna; and countless other friends and family he found along the way.
Born in Winnipeg, Ed was orphaned at a young age, and raised by the Catholic Church. He spent his early years in an orphanage, followed by foster placements, then Catholic boarding school.
Ed found family for the first time at 19 when he rented a room on Cathedral Ave from Mrs. Bye. He told her that he wouldn't stay long, but ended up staying there for 17 years. Mrs. Bye became Grandma Bye to Ed's children. He loved that family and they loved him.
At the age of 40, Ed married the love his life Simone. Even in his last days, he couldn't believe such a beautiful woman married him. Together they created a family who brought him peace, comfort, happiness, and joy
There will be no service. A remembrance celebration will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please tell those you love how much they mean to you, and remember to take pictures of yourself with loved ones often.
Ed will be missed, but will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Although he may not have found out how much that "doggy in the window" was, he now finds himself on his walk with God.
"I'll walk with God from this day on.
His helping hand I'll lean upon.
This is my prayer, my humble plea:
May the Lord be ever with me."
