Uncle Stephen .... I will always remember going to his and Auntie Mary's house in St James (just up the block from Dairy Queen) when I was younger. I would lay on the living room floor and pet their dog Chelsea and Uncle Steven would feed me gumdrop nougat candies that he kept in the end table beside his chair. I especially loved going downstairs to their basement and dreaming I was in a tropical paradise in front of their beach themed wallpaper. Our daughter now shares the same birth date with him and it will always be a great memory of him when June 8th rolls around each year. Rest easy Uncle Stephen, until we meet again.

Words cannot Express the sadness we feel over the loss of such a wonderful man. Our deepest sympathies to Mary and all her family. Our first memory of Steven and Mary were when our daughter was a baby . She used to run to the window to watch them walk by everyday , so she could see them walk by with their little dog Chelsey , we always guessed what color ribbon Chelsey would have in her hair.Little did we know that the house we bought a few years later would have Mary, and Steven, and chelsey as our neighbors. This brought us many many years of having wonderful friends. Steven helping us in our yard .telling me I was cutting my grass to short lol. Lending us tools, giving us tips on how to do things, he was not only our friend, he was like a father too us. We loved him more than words could tell, and love Mary just as much. The many nights sitting outside in their yard drinking home made wine and listening to his stories. We missed them when they moved ,but saw how happy they were in their new home. Steven especially liked to twirl around his kitchen counter top, lol. We will miss him terribly, but we are so thankful that he came into our lives .We will love you forever Steven, you were one of a kind, I can see you now helping those in heaven, making sure the grass up there isnt cut to short. REST IN PEACE , you were our second dad. Love Dee-Dee and Lionel.

My deepest sympathies to Mary and family. I always enjoyed Steve's company at the Anavets meat draws on Friday evenings. Always put a smile on my face when he grabbed my hand and gave it a good squeeze.

My deepest condolences to Mary, Vivienne and Sharon and their spouses, children and grandchildren. Yes, I also remember Stephen’s sense of humour, his bird song whistling, his love of family and refined carpentry skills, and also his warm smile and the twinkle in his eye.
What a legacy Stephen has created as a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather - as Andy Warhol said, the idea is not to live forever, but to create something that will! Your commemorative video sparked a flood of memories and feelings…and tears! It captured the kind and gentle cousin who always had a positive word for everyone and always attended extended family events. Although Stephen was my first cousin, he was actually near the age of my father (wth whom he shared a name) and older than my mother. I remember when Stephen and Mary visited as he and my Dad filled the house with laughter and recollections of their childhoods while my Mom and Mary bonded over marrying into this exuberant tight-knit Ukrainian pedigree. I will always be grateful for their visits to my Mom when she was in the hospital and to my Dad in his final years.
Your carefully selected music and photos reminded me of some of the childhood adventures of visiting his parents’ farm in Sperling - the songs of Grand Ole Oprey’s Ferlin Husky and of Claude King’s Wolverton Mountain, Bobby Vinton’s Roses are red, and many more, of the freshly baked bread, and of the second floor of bedrooms where we would find remnants of the youth and teens of Stephen and each of his siblings. Mostly, the video radiated with love - the love of family that his generation showered on me and my generation in my childhood, and that he clearly passed on to you all. I was disappointed not to have recognized so many people in the video - the price of moving two provinces away over 45 years ago. So, like cousin Gail, I too hope for those of us who know one another to reunite and help our now second- , third- and fourth- cousins at least to meet. Sending much love to all. Sheila (Olenka) Bilash (Slobodzian) and family
