Bob Parkes

Obituary of Bob Parkes

Robert Edwin Parkes, beloved husband of Ede (nee McCartney) passed away peacefully on March 29, 2022 at age 93. Bob was raised in the Sturgeon Creek (St. James) area of Winnipeg and married Ede in 1953. Bob was predeceased by his father Charles; mother Lilian; brothers Dennis, Bill and Ted; sisters Helen Bennett and Dorothy Groom. Bob is survived by his sister Betsy Cunningham, cousins, nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, plus many in-laws on Ede’s side. Bob loved to golf and was still golfing at age 92. He was very proud of his Hole-in-One, and that he shot his age every day but actually did it once in regulation play. Bob also enjoyed curling and in later years watching his good friend Paul Cayer compete. The after-game socializing and coffee with friends was a highlight. Bob and Ede lived in “Paradise” for 19 years, just a chip shot away from Cottonwood and Oakwood golf courses. Aside from golfing there, he volunteered a lot on course maintenance at Cottonwood. Family was #1 in Bob’s books. He loved the history of his relatives and the stories they told. Bob was thrilled to receive all the birthday phone calls when he turned 93. Bob made everyone feel welcome. A hug and kiss and “Love You” were always part of his greetings. He always had a joke or a quip for you to brighten your day. Bob was indeed everyone’s favourite uncle. Cremation has taken place and at Bob’s request there will be no service. It is Bob’s wish that Heart and Stroke Manitoba receive the benefit of your thoughtfulness.
