Obituary of Catherine Davis
On July 31st, 2019, our dear wife, mother and grandmother Catherine peacefully passed away at the Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg. She was a very proud Scottish lady being born in Edinburgh to Jimmy and Annie Calderwood. She will always be lovingly remembered by her two sons, David (Barb) and Scott (Anna) as well as his children, Mara and Holly; her sister Roberta (Dennis) and their children Derrick and Dianne; her brother John (Lynda) and their two daughters in Scotland.
In 1969, Catherine immigrated to Canada with her first husband Derek Simpson and their two sons. She worked for Eatons Downtown in Ladies Fashions where she would become manager of it’s No. 1 shop. After her divorce, she later married Derek Davis who had three sons, Mark (Cathy), Paul and Grant. She will also be dearly missed by Mark and Cathy’s children Jessica (Zach) and Jordan.
Throughout their marriage of nearly thirty years, Catherine and Derek would live in different parts of Winnipeg before finally settling into a peaceful life in Stonewall, MB. Wanting to remain active, Catherine kept working various part time jobs. However, she started to experience difficulties in moving, particularly on the stairs. Finally, she had to undergo treatment at the Movement Disorders Clinic. To mitigate the travel for these treatments, a decision was made to move back to Winnipeg. It was after a few falls that would eventually lead to a broken hip, that we discovered she had a serious case of COPD and emphysema. She was hospitalized with this a few times but unfortunately, she couldn’t beat it this last time no matter how hard she tied. And did she ever.
She leaves behind her loving husband, many family members and numerous friends. At her request, cremation has taken place and no formal funeral service will be held.
The family offers their sincere gratitude to Dr. Borrett and the staff at the Grace Hospital for the kindly care and attention they gave Catherine during her stay.
Rest in Peace, my dear loved one; You are with Mum and Dad
