Deepest sympathy to Bob’s Family on his passing.
I met Bob when I was a Louis Riel School Division Trustee and toured the St. Vital Museum.
I saw his passion for the museum then and the pride he showed for being a part of it.
May you Rest In Peace, Bob.

Bob was an amazing story teller, a strong supporter of the Armed Forces, a committed sports fan and devoted to the history of his community and province. He could be quite witty at times and loved hearing views of others whether he agreed with them or not. He will be missed by many. -David Chadwick

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Bob. The world is a smaller place without him, but Bob left a large legacy and example. I met Bob around the time he turned his journalistic skills to heritage. And what a swath he cut in the bringing our local history to the city, and to the world!
As a friend, Bob was a sterling guy, always lending an ear when needed. His one liners, especially when we would meet for coffee after some passage of time, were striking, hilarious, and special. His understanding, wise insights and plain straightforward analysis of things fostered a sense of safety in this world.
And Bob was a true support. When asked, Bob immediately, unconditionally (and eschewing rehearsal time) accepted a request for him to appear in the role of a 1940’s detective character for an outdoor heritage presentation. Bob needed no rehearsal - he was comedic, quite a natural, and he played his character effortlessly. He was a joy to work with. Needless to say, Bob was an absolute hit and many recognized his unique voice from many seasons as on air reporter at CJOB.
Bob supported events and made the most of it when I sent him a press release with the “snacks provided” part circled in red. At the event, Bob made sure to loudly let me know he came for the food, but it was obvious amid his gentle comedic charm that Bob was a true appreciator and student of Winnipeg’s endless history. He often spoke of his own oral and neighbourhood history, and I am sure much of his heritage research was strengthened through his long time journalistic skills. He was gracious and wouldn’t hesitate to share his knowledge, presenting a fascinating talk when he was asked to speak to a group of writers who had written for the Winnipeg Foundation’s Community News Commons right before Covid hit.
Bob’s friendship was the type that made one feel safe, supported and just happy - he was that kind of guy. I am deeply saddened at his death.

We would like all to know that Bob Holiday was a hell of guy, and a great and long time friend of Ted and Lynne Foreman. I go back to the early seventies when I was introduced to Bob by the late Ken Nicholson. We became instant friends from that time on. Bob had asked me to help and assist him to travel to Grand Forks for several cancer treatments. Bob, along with the Foreman,s, The Nicholson,s and the late John Ferguson and wife JOAN had spent many evenings in Bob,s back yard with large and great BON-FIRES. I have become very ill with cancer this year, and received great support from Bob. Bob was of great support when I lost my first wife in 1996. He has been a great friend to my latest wife Lynne and I for the past 25 years. Regards “The Foreman Family”

Our condolences to all of Bob’s family and friends. We met Bob in the early 2000’s and he quickly became a truly interesting and knowledgeable person to have a lunch with. He created the moniker of SCIW and SK for us. We knew he accepted us as friends. Bob would spend time at our cottage and we would keep in touch. Friends Cher and Len

First of all, I would like to send my condolences to Doc’s family and friends. There is a brighter star in the sky shining down on us and hopefully, we all find our way next to him one day.
What to say about a man who said it all. I had the pleasure of working with Doc at the Winnipeg Sun for almost 13 years. He walked into the newsroom one day and dropped a very large button on my desk “for you B” he said. It was pink and had “The World’s Biggest B**CH” in bold white lettering. I displayed that button proudly throughout the years and still have it tucked away in my keepsakes today.
Bob was at times larger than life and would give you the shirt off his back My children were fortunate enough to see every WWF Wrestling match and meet all their favourites backstage thanks to Doc.
After I left the sun and joined the Winnipeg Police Service Bob and I had the chance to reconnect. We were in the company of then police Chief Jack Ewatski. He greeted me with “B” then turned to Jack and said “has she told you to f**k off yet?” I had been with the service all of three months. My only saving grace was I knew the Chief before he was the Chief.
Doc and I kept in touch periodically over the years and he never changed. He was always the jovial, big hearted, larger than life personality that I first met almost 35 yrs ago.
RIP Doc and say hi to Downtown Rhonda Brown

Met Bob when he was working nights stocking shelves at Safeway which was at that time across the street from The Lance weekly newspaper. He was hired as a local sportswriter by Wes Rowsen the Lance editor. I’m sure he was at Safeway to help subsidize his income as a sports writer. I happened to be working nights at the Lance employed as a printer and Bob would show up after a hockey game to write his story about the game that evening. He loved working at night. Last saw Bob at the Red Top several years ago. Bob Brown, Parksville, BC

I had the pleasure and honor of spending many Sunday mornings with Bob at the “ World Famous” breakfast club. How knowledge of history, sports ,biblical events and everything else was amazing. His memory was incredible. If I try to sum up my thoughts about his character I must say that he was truly one of the most , “ To thine own self be true “ ,people I have ever known . I hope he rests well . John Melnick

Condolences to Bob’s family, relatives and to all of his many friends. I first met Bob almost 60 years ago when he was working for The Lance. Bob was covering Junior hockey and while I was playing Bob was sitting with my future wife, Donna, in the stands. Friendship continued through my time with the St. Vital Mustangs which Bob covered, and then to many hours spent at The Red Top. At Red Top breakfasts Bob was introduced to my children as well as grand children, and Bob took great joy in telling them what a terrible hockey player I was. After discovering that Bob lived one block over from us on Hindley Ave., I began walking my dog past his house and would tell him we had left a present for him. This banter was standard with Bob always saying his cat was out looking for us. Too many stories and good times to relate. R.I.P. good friend.

Bob was truly one of a kind. One day, in the Sun newsroom, I was describing someone to Bob and when I said that this person was tall, Bob interrupted with, "Everyone looks tall to you!" From then on, he called me the Militant Midget and he'd greet me with, "Hi, Militant!" He was a wonderful person, a dedicated journalist and everyone's favourite in the Sun newsroom. Rest in peace, Bob, and know that everyone loved you. -- Naomi Lakritz

I had the great luck of working with Bob for 10 years at the Winnipeg Sun. He was a seasoned vet, and I was all ears whenever Bob spoke; which was a lot. Gawd, that man loved to chatter. He was true character and consummate professional. His knowledge of the police world, and his contacts/sources were second to none. Bob was always breaking a big story. He introduced to me to the Red Top Restaurant, where he was the unofficial mayor. My next visit there will be filled with thoughts about Bob and his adventures. He was a top-ranked wrestling promoter and highly respected. He would toss us free tickets at the Sun once in a while. When I moved from the Sun to MPI, Bob would call me with his/other people's questions about their claims. He was a true advocate. I'd give him the info and wouldn't hear from him again for months. I'd have to follow up and ask if everything worked out. It normally did. My condolences to Bob's family and huge group of friends. He was a Winnipeg legend. And we're going to miss him greatly.

My sincere condolences to the entire extended Holliday family. It was always a joy to bump into Doc, be it in the office, on the street, or at a game. There was never a time without a smile and a great story. Thank you Doc for your kind words, both written, and spoken, regarding my father, Obie, and my brother Don. You always had the ability to make us feel good, even with your friendly jibes. You truly will be missed, thanks for the stories Doc! Brian Baizley

Doc was a friend and colleague. Yes… you always know Doc’s feelings / thoughts. He would let you know. I guess that’s what strengthened our friendship as we would challenge each other…. from when he started at the LANCE community paper, then the TRIB, and later CJOB. As a reporter we crossed paths all the time. Doc never liked praise…. He just said … “I’m just doin’ my job…. followed quickly, with… “ what else is new?”
I treasured our friendship.. one of a kind…special….and appreciated. Rest easy pal… ~ BLESS8NGS to all who enjoyed a guy who sometimes was gruff but always caring. Miss you Doc…. He organized our ‘OB breakfast each year at Red Top. Ron Hill
