Obituary of Vincent Prazak

It is with great sadness that we announce Vincent Prazak passed away peacefully at the age of 86 years at home with his family at his side on March 19, 2023. Left to cherish Vincent’s memory is his beloved wife, Vera, of 61 years. Vincent will also be lovingly remembered by his son, Bill Prazak, of Winkler, MB, and daughter, Petra Prazakova (Wayne), of Dartmouth, NS and his grandchildren, Steven, Scott, Julie and Thomas and his great-granddaughter, Ayla. Also mourning Vincent’s passing are his sisters Jaroslava, Albina, and Zdena and his brother, Stanislav as well as many nieces and nephews in the Czech Republic. Vincent was predeceased by his parents, Albina and Vincenc, as well as his brother, Vladimir. Vincent was born on December 24, 1936, in Kromeriz, Czechoslovakia, where he and Vera both grew up. They were married in their hometown and, in 1969, they began their new lives in Winnipeg, with their young family. Vincent was fondly known as Deda by his children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. Deda flew as a private pilot in Winnipeg for many years. He shared his love for aviation with his grandson, Steven, who is also a pilot. Deda played the clarinet and shared his love for playing musical instruments with his grandson, Scott, an accomplished guitarist. Deda also shared his beautiful singing voice with his granddaughter, Julie, who sang with her Deda shortly before he passed. When Vincent’s children were growing up, the family often spent Sundays going for picnics at the beach or hikes in the forests or meadows of Manitoba. Often times, a family soccer game would break out. While most everyone in the family enjoyed playing soccer, Deda’s enjoyment of the game was mostly shared with his grandson, Thomas, an accomplished soccer player of whom Deda became a devoted fan. Vincent leaves his legacy through his beautiful, loving family. The family would like to thank the dedicated doctors and nurses, who cared so compassionately for Vincent. A special thank you to Dr. Sarah Dunsmore and the Palliative Care team, especially the remarkable nurses, Kija, Janice, Johannes, Cloe, and Lori, who made it possible for Vincent to pass peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family, as he had wished. Vincent loved nature and a ceremony returning him to his favourite place will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canada Kidney Foundation.
