Obituary of Catherine Anne Van Nest
With broken hearts on March 27th 2023 we said goodbye to our dear wife, mom, daughter, sister, and friend Catherine Anne Van Nest (McCormack).
Left to cherish Cathy’s memory are her beloved husband of 37 years, John Van Nest, son Benjamin Van Nest (Brittani Lawson), and daughter Hollice Van Nest (Adam Warelis). Cathy will also be lovingly remembered by her mother, Florence McCormack of Winnipeg; her siblings Donna McIntosh (Brock) of Carberry, Dianne McCormack (Richard Short) of Douglas, Cindy Meyer (JL) of Teulon , Kevin McCormack (Emmannuelle Archambault) of Regina, and Debra McCormack of Winnipeg; aunts Shirley Ward of Winnipeg and Eleanor Ward of Victoria, BC.
She also will be lovingly remembered by John’s family: father, Paul Van Nest, of Winnipeg, brothers Pete Van Nest, of Lac Du Bonnet, Charles Van Nest (Linda) and Dean Van Nest; sisters Stephanie Van Nest, Pam Van Nest, and Barbara Kolomi (Glen) all of Winnipeg; and all her nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and those whose lives she touched with her kindness and generosity.
Cathy was predeceased by: her father, Vernon McCormack; mother-in-law, Edna Van Nest; sisters-in-law, Judy Van Nest and Terri Van Nest; uncle Derrol (Derry) Ward; cousins Kim Ward and Derrol Ward; uncle and aunt Norman and Mildred McCormack.
Cathy was born on November 27th, 1964, in Winnipeg. She lived most of her life in Winnipeg except for a couple of years in Morden, Manitoba, as a child. She graduated from Miles MacDonnell Collegiate with the Class of 1982 and then Red River College where she obtained her Business Administration and Secretary of Medical Terminology diplomas. Cathy continued her education throughout her working years to remain current in all aspects of her career. She retired in 2017, after a dedicated 33 year career in health care finance and administration.
Cathy enjoyed gardening, painting, crafting, and collecting, but most of all she loved time with her family and her pugs, Daisy and Jade. Cathy opened her home to family, friends and neighbors to celebrate holidays and special occasions or just to relax and share a few laughs. She and John were wonderful hosts.
Cathy generously gave her time, money, knowledge and heart to multiple charities and community organizations such as Siloam Mission, Children Believe, and Manitoba Pug Rescue.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Health Sciences Centre for their compassionate care and understanding.
A celebration of life will be held on April 12th at 10:30am at Rossmere Golf & Country Club, 925 Watt Street Winnipeg. Masks will be required.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, Shared Health MB Mental Health Programs, or a charity of your choice.
