Obituary of Debra Jean Reid

With heavy hearts, we are saddened to announce the passing of Debra Jean Reid at the age of 67 on Friday, August 25, 2023, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Daughter of the late William "Bill" and Audrey Reid of Halifax, NS.  She is survived by her four children, Danielle (Kent) of Winnipeg, MB; Christopher (Brenda); Nicholas of Edmonton, AB; and Dominique of Ottawa, ON.

A proud grandmother, she will forever be remembered as "Kookoo" (Cree saying for grandma) by Sonni, Mia, Kassidy and Desirae of Winnipeg, MB, and as "Memaw" by Kaleesi, Kadence and Emett of Edmonton, AB. Debbie is also survived by her brother Jamie Reid of Halifax, NS. 

Debbie loved antiques, all things blue and heart-shaped, and was the original DIYer when it came to her children’s birthday parties and gift wrapping—a limitless creativity that has been passed on to her kin. 

She spent much of her working years in customer service roles, befitting her kind, compassionate and approachable demeanor.  With a great sense of humour, she was witty and funny and didn’t shy away from sharing her opinion. She loved a good mystery and liked to stay up to date on the latest news and read the newspaper, the hard copy kind, every day until she couldn’t anymore. 

Debbie loved to try new foods, loved a good deal, and was accepting of all cultures, showing an interest in other's heritage and customs. Above all, she adored the East Coast and her place of birth, Halifax, and had the fondest memories, and stories to share, of her late Nanny (Agnes Kelly). 

Debbie will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by family and friends.

Cremation has occurred, and a Celebration of Life is planned for the summer of 2024 in Halifax.
