Obituary of Ronald Gordon Sokol

Its with great sadness we announce the passing of our father Ronald Sokol after a short battle with cancer.  Ron is predeceased by this parents Gordon and Bernice Sokol.

He is survived by his sons Albert, Gordon, Juston (Krista), Dillon; daughter Amber; sister Sandy Fastershank (Eric); ex-wife Cheryl. And many other friends and family.

Ron was born February 18 1960 and grew up in Winnipeg, where he spent 4 years as a cadet and attended school, graduating in 1978.

After graduation he joined the carnival, running games and doing set up/teardown. After working the carnival circuit for many years Ron left to join the family business becoming a long haul truck driver with his father. After leaving the family business Ron remained a Trucker taking various routes big and small, taking him all over the county and the USA, always returning to his hometown Winnipeg. Where his parents and family resided. Ron loved his many years on the road where he met many people and gained life long friends. Even in his later years Ron still talked fondly about his days working the carnival with Wondershows, and his tales of the road.

Rons first marriage gave him 2 sons Gordon and Albert. Shortly after his first marriage ended he met Cheryl, who would become his second wife. This marriage resulted in 2 sons; Juston (Krista) and Dillon, and one daughter Amber. Even though after 15 years their marriage didn’t last, Cheryl and Ron remained friends.

Ron often enjoyed watching Hockey, Football, and Nascar. He also enjoyed going to Victory Lanes to watch the car races, and going fishing with his friends or kids.

We would like to thank the wonderful third floor staff at Riverview for their endless care and compassion during his end days.

In Leiu of flowers donations in his name may be made to Riverview health care center.

Celebration of life will be October 13, 2023 at the Transcona Legion from 1:00-4:00 pm.
