Obituary of George William Lawrie
On the evening of October 30, 2023, George William Lawrie, the only child of George Albert Lawrie and Elsie Lawrie (nee Catherall), passed away peacefully with family by his side at St. Boniface Hospital.
Grieving the loss of “grandpa” are his wife Ell-Dora; sons Steven and Kevin; and their family members Kimi, Jackie, Kira-Lyn, Kaitlyn, Donovan, Devon, Anita, Thomas and Remington.
Born September 12, 1940 in Swan River, Manitoba, George married Ell-Dora Emelinda Johnson on October 28, 1961 and was the consummate husband, father and dedicated family man. Inseparable from his loving and devoted wife, George treasured time with family and was a very caring and supportive husband, father and grandfather.
George was a very private person, generous of his time, always willing to help others and always concerned with doing right by others.
His passions were his family, movies, music, classic cars, a good quality pen, and card games.
George served the public as a diligent employee of Canada Post for over 35 years. He retired at 55 years old and enjoyed a long retirement, despite a very serious heart attack in 2001. George and his family are extremely grateful for the wonderful care he has received from his many healthcare professionals over the years. They have helped him have many years of quality life with his family.
In particular, the family is grateful to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for the excellent, compassionate care he received.
A private family service will be held on November 3, 2023.
George will be interred with his parents in the Stonewall Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honour to the St. Boniface Hospital or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
