Female-Owned Winnipeg Crematorium Continues To Serve The Community With Dignity & Innovation

WINNIPEG, Manitoba:  Alterna Cremation has nearly reached its one-hundredth five-star review on Google—no small feat for a female-owned business in what has traditionally been a male-dominated niche.  But Alterna Cremation’s female owner isn’t the only thing that makes the East Saint Paul funeral home unique.  Its commitment to simple, dignified cremation services, supportive relationship-building, and innovative memorial products are all important aspects that deeply connect people to Alterna.

When Ashley Newton founded Alterna Cremation in 2019, her goal was to provide a straightforward alternative to traditional funeral services.  She noticed more and more families seeking direct cremation for their loved ones and decided to build a funeral home based solely around that concept.  “I wanted to provide a funeral option with no frills and low bills,” says Newton.  “A dignified service without the black attire, chandeliers, and limousines.”

Alterna Cremation offers direct cremation services at one price with no add-ons or hidden costs.  Families are supported with compassion and resources but are not pressured to make additional purchases.  Clearly, Newton’s vision has found a foothold in the Winnipeg community because her business keeps on growing.  While it can be tough to get referrals in the funeral industry, Alterna Cremation receives plenty of appreciation.

“It’s the little touches that go a long way,” reflects Newton.  “Families know that we care and that we’re providing a needed and transparent service.”  In addition to direct cremation, Alterna also offers products such as urns and cremation jewelry.  In-house engraving is an innovative technique that allows Newton to provide loved ones with jewelry (or other items) that include the name and fingerprint of someone who has passed away.

Newton believes that many families want to take back some control in the way they honour their loved ones, and she is proud and grateful to be able to provide that option.  For more information about Alterna Cremation and the services it provides visit https://alternacremation.ca.
