The loss of a loved one is one of life’s most difficult and painful experiences.  There are simply no words that can express the feelings of grief or the sense of overwhelm that often accompany such an event.

Arrangements for the final disposition of the body must be handled soon after death, and at Alterna Cremation, we take immense pride in offering a simple alternative to more traditional funeral services: A direct cremation package with no hidden fees.

Many Manitoba families today seek a straightforward approach to funeral services that will allow them to maintain a high degree of control in how they choose to honour their loved one(s).  Alterna provides exactly such an option while still being available to support the families in its care with deep empathy every step of the way.

Since 2018, funeral director Ashley Newton has been offering direct cremation services to the greater Winnipeg community, including residents of the Transcona neighbourhood.  She continues to see increasing demand for her team’s professional services and is grateful to be able to serve families in need as they navigate one of the most challenging times in their lives.

Affordable, Dignified Cremation Services

For some individuals and families, the expenses associated with a traditional funeral home are prohibitive.  For others, a simpler approach just feels like a better fit.  No matter the reasons, our team at Alterna Cremation is wholeheartedly committed to offering dignified cremation services to each and every individual and family in its care.

At Alterna, there are no hidden costs nor high-pressure sales tactics—simply one clearly communicated process that leaves ample room for families to remember their loved ones in their own way and on their own terms.

What Is Direct Cremation?

Direct cremation, also known as simple cremation, is the most basic form of cremation and typically occurs within a few days after death.  At Alterna Cremation, our direct cremation package includes:

  • All administration, transfer, and cremation fees
  • A basic cremation casket and simple white cardboard urn (if you do not purchase an urn or provide your own)
  • Free transfer of the body from anywhere in Winnipeg (including the Transcona neighbourhood)
  • The submission of CPP Death Benefit applications for you, unlimited Proof of Death Certificates, and registration of death with the Province of Manitoba
  • Online obituary (and support writing it, if desired)
  • Virtual or in-person arrangement of services (at our Henderson location or in your own home)

Have further questions about Alterna’s direct cremation package?  Contact us directly, and we will spend the time to ensure you’ve received all the answers you need.
