I remember George and thank him, for being a very kind and considerate friend. When Carole and George would come to pick me up, George, although blind, would get out of the front seat, find his way to the back seat of the car, and give me his front seat to make me feel more comfortable.

Dear Carole and family,
Pat Beyer and I were just talking about the many great times we spent with you and George over the years. We were recalling our trip to Norway House by car in 2003 to attend the last Rossville School Reunion, seeing the bears at the garbage dump, flying over Norway House with my former student in his plane, the many students so happy to see George as he had a great influence over their lives not only in teaching but in sports. What a fun time we had celebrating Bev Ross's 70th birthday in your back yard complete with fiddle playing and so many more times come to mind. Pat and I wish you and yours strength from the love and care that surround you, comfort in wonderful memories and peace as you move forward knowing how much George loved you all.
With our deepest sympathy, and,our love and support.
Verna Kirkness and Patricia Beyer

I worked with George many years ago at Peguis - and have always remembered him with great fondness. George was a true gentleman and a very kind and loving human being.
I share sorrow, for their loss, with his family and friends - and I share their gratitude also, for having known this lovely man - even so briefly

I never had Mr Bates as a teacher but always remembered him as a big gentle man. As a little bit of a fire cracker unschool I always walked a straight line when I saw him coming down the hall. He wouldn’t hesitate to put you in your place if needed. Lol. RIP Mr Bates.
Our condolences goes out to the family.

My condolences go out to Carole, Georgia, Tyler, Ryan and the rest of the bates family. Mr Bates was my 8th grade math teacher he was always fair but stern and was passionate about teaching kids. I also played hockey and baseball with Ryan and my dad worked with Carole. From all the car rides to and from practices and games I got to see a different side of mr bates and that was how funny he was and as my dad would say, comical. Mr Bates and carole attended my mom's and then later my dad's funeral. I was very thankful for their support. I wish I could be there for carole and the rest of the family but I cannot. My thoughts are with you.
