Obituary of George Bates
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Bates. George will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Carole, and his children Georgia (Lloyd) Wells, Tyler (Mona), Ryan (Joanne Lysack); grandchildren Chasity Wells, Emory Wells, Cheyenne Bates, Hannah Bates, and Chad Bates. He will also be missed by his siblings, Anne Chalmers, Donna Bates, Lois Campbell, and Faron Bates, as well as his uncle Bill and Aunt Vi Ross, Aunt Bev Ross and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
George was born in Kinosota, Manitoba. He was predeceased and is forever reunited with his parents, Lou and Mary Bates, sister Ardell Parisian, and brothers Joe Bates, and Nathan Bates.
He taught for 32 years, beginning at Oxford House, then Norway House, Peguis, Powerview and Winnipeg. He ended his teaching career at St. John’s High School, after teaching there for 23 years. He loved spending time with his family and attending church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed many sports, such as fastball, golf, downhill and cross-country skiing, curling, weightlifting, running and taekwondo. After retiring from teaching he did ski patrol and rescue in the Rockies. He also enjoyed listening to country and Christian music.
George left us with a wonderful legacy of love, faith and fun. His warm and gentle spirit will be greatly missed.
