Obituary of Eugene Joseph Kohut

On Sunday, September 20th, after a brief battle with cancer, Gene passed away with his family by his side. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family. Gene was one of 13 siblings who grew up in Stuartburn, Manitoba. His love for technology was demonstrated early when he installed a telephone between the barn and house for easier and efficient communication. With a screwdriver in one hand, needle-nose pliers in the other, and a soldering iron in his back pocket, Gene left Stuartburn eager to take on the world. Gene could fix anything, he ventured on to fix every radio and TV he came across. His philosophy was that if something worked once, he could get it to work again. Gene worked at Radio Oil, Bristol Aerospace, and was regional manager at Honeywell Security. At the age of 55 he retired from Honeywell. In his retirement his passion turned to fixing computers, TV’s, and especially boat motors. Gene met Magda when he was 15 and in February of 1961 they were married. He and Magda enjoyed their time taking the kids fishing and camping on the weekends. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this upcoming February. Gene and Magda later built a cottage in Traverse Bay where Gene would spend his time content to putter around and fix or improve anything he could. Gene would do anything for anyone and was there whenever you needed him. He was an amazing husband, dad and grandpa who will be missed every day. “Rest in peace Gene, Dad, and Grandpa. We love you so much.”
