Obituary of Vera Dagmar Forbes

Vera is now with her love of over 60 years (George) who predeceased her in 2016. In the early hours of March 14th, she left behind son Dan (Linda); grandchildren Ryan (Candace) and Jessica; and great grandsons James and Sebastian. Raised in Winnipeg during the Great Depression, without her father present due to the war during her formative years, and having multiple illnesses throughout her life, served to increase her determination, faith, and relationships with others. Transcona became home in 1961. She personified the work ethic and values of the community and as a member of the United Church which was very important to her. Every newborn received one of her treasured knitted outfits that have been handed down through generations. Mom loved to bake our favourites: nanaimo bars, butter tarts, rhubarb cake and her infamous pumpkin pie. She loved to read, watch the Blue Bombers and curling adding her own commentary. She completed every crossword puzzle she began. Mom adopted “Toast” from the family and spoiled her like she did with all family members. Fiercely independent and focused, and very stubborn, her needs were simple. Family, friends, and community was all she needed and was never shy about telling others of how proud she was. Mom always saw only the good, tried to help and console others when she herself needed it. This made the last three months of her life at Concordia Hospital extremely challenging for her where she was denied the opportunity due to the COVID restrictions, to read the paper, have a working TV to watch the news, have her sweater to keep her warm, or the chance to hold the hands of people she loved. It is hard to sum up in words the 90 years of life that mom lived. Her life was built on the foundation of family, faith and love which kept her fighting until the end, touching all who had the pleasure of knowing her. There will be no service, as she requested.
