Obituary of Melton George Knudtson

Bud (Melton) George Knudtson passed away on January 8, 2022, at the age of 99 years. Bud was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan on May 19, 1922. He leaves behind to cherish memories, his two daughters, Lorrie (Garfield) Meissner and Barb (Mark)Borden as well as his sister Dorothea Trouth, grandchildren Tracy (Jean Guy) Gervais and Shane (Chrissy) Borden as well as his five great grandchildren Easton and Colton Gervais and Brady, Bennett and Bowen Borden as well as his nieces and nephews and cousins. Bud served in the air force from 1941 to 1945. On August 5 1944 he married Jean McKay and they started a happy life together with lots of friends, until her passing in 2004. They were married for 59 years. Bud received a degree in Accounting C.G.A. and went on to work in Calgary, Medicine Hat, Esterhazy and Regina. In Saskatchewan he worked for IMC, Thyssen Mining and Construction, Leonard Industries and he retired from Saskatchewan Potash Producers Association at the age of 81. He said he would have kept working but all his bosses had retired. He had a great career and had many acquaintances. While Bud was in Medicine Hat he served as president of the Medicine Hat Golf and Country club for several years. Bud and Jean got to enjoyed travel to Europe with his career and again made lots of friends. They loved to entertain, and Bud loved a party with family and friends. He loved to stir the pot. After his children left home, he purchased a home with a swimming pool, so coming to Regina for the May long weekend and Bud’s birthday became a tradition. Friends and relatives loved coming to the “pool party” and Bud always had lots of people to celebrate his birthday with. After his wife Jean passed away, he moved to Calgary to be near his sister Dorothea. He had a condo with a great view of the mountains and he continued to entertain friends and family. The pool party changed to Martini Monday with his sister, niece, and friends. When he turned 93, he decided to move to Winnipeg to be near his daughter Barb and there he enjoyed a great relationship with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and furry grandkids. He loved dogs, birds, and Winnipeg’s trees. In these past few years he was fortunate to have Barb to visit him daily and help him with his shopping and care. He always let us know he was very appreciative of her attention. He was a great guy, friend, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather, he will be missed. A celebration of his life will be held in Calgary at a later date.
