Obituary of June Lois Sobkowicz

It is with great sadness that her family announces June’s passing at the age of 91 years with her son David at her side. June was born in Medicine Hat, AB to Cecil Garland Wood and Daisy Wood (nee Scudder). June and her family moved frequently to various locations in Alberta due to her father’s employment with CP Rail. Although living far from each other as adults, June and her two sisters were always close at heart. After graduating high school, June and a friend traveled to Victoria, BC to study Nursing at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. It was in Victoria that June met her future husband, Edward on a blind date. June kept in touch with her good friends from Nursing Training for the rest of her life. As a Registered Nurse, principally in the O.R., June worked in Victoria, BC, International Falls, MN, Seattle, WA, and Winnipeg, MB. After moving to Winnipeg, the family enjoyed a warm relationship with their relatives the Kustra and Dzogan families. June loved tea and drank it by the potful. She also loved cooking delicious meals for her family. She was always drawn to healing, first with her training as a nurse and later with her study and practice of Reiki. June is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Ed (in 2015), son Michael, parents Cecil and Daisy, mother-in-law Anna, father-in-law John, sister Olive, brothers-in-law Frank, Harley, Jack, Walter, and Joe, and sisters-in-law Joan and May. June is survived by her daughter Joan (Glen), son David, sister Claudia (Norman) as well as numerous wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank Dr. A. Fatoye of Kildonan Clinic, Winnipeg for his compassionate care as well as the caring staff at Seven Oaks Hospital and Riverview Health Centre. In accordance with June’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. If friends and family so choose, a donation to Agape Table Inc., P.O. Box 26111, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3G 3R3 or a charity of their choice, would be greatly appreciated.
