Obituary of Ken Carpenter
CELEBRATION OF LIFE - Wednesday, August 24th at the Norwood Community Centre, 87 Walmer Street, at 1:00 PM.
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ken Carpenter with his family by his side at the young age of 67. He left us gently and peacefully and we will miss him dearly.
Left to mourn his passing are his son Jesse (Lindsay); and daughters Sara and Kiara; as well as three beautiful grandchildren Eve, Luke and Aidan.
He will also be lovingly remembered by his mother Colleen; brothers Lawrence and Kerry; sister Deedee; and other family members. He will also be sadly missed by his former spouses Cathy and Cheryl; as well as many other close friends and colleagues he met over the years.
He attended Pinkham School, Hugh John MacDonald, Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and the University of Manitoba. Ken had a rewarding 35-year career with the City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation before retiring in 2012. Throughout his career his wit and sense of humour made him countless friendships.
Ken had a passion for sports whether it was baseball, hockey or football and always excelled at everything he played. You could always find him either watching it, playing it, betting on it or coaching it. Ken was a great coach for his children’s teams and taught them from the heart and did everything possible to make it fun. His children have fond memories of his stories about coaching their teams.
Ken was a smart, kind, funny and loving man. He was a firecracker and he always made people light up and laugh everywhere he went, which made it easy for him to meet new friends. But most importantly he always remained close to the old friendships throughout the years.
Ken’s grandchildren were the apple of his eye and he always enjoyed visiting with them and giving them goodbye hugs. He will live on forever in their hearts and they will be his legacy. We love you Papa.
Our thanks to all the staff at CancerCare and Palliative Care who honoured Ken’s wishes to remain at home as long as possible while providing outstanding care and comfort and to Riverview for keeping him comfortable during his last days.
Ken loved a good social gathering so please come and share your “Kenny” stories and memories at his Celebration of Life, with his family and friends on Wednesday, August 24th at the Norwood Community Centre, 87 Walmer Street, at 1:00 PM.
